English / Poplar Cottage

Poplar Cottage, probably the home of a landless labourer dating from the mid 17th century.  It is an important example of the transition from open hall house such as Bayleaf to houses with chimneys such as Pendean.  Poplar has a 'smoke bay' an early form of chimney.
It is a wonderful venue for drama and features in our Open Air Theatre productions.  This is where we meet on our Period Agricultural Sessions.

Think of the words to describe the atmosphere of this cottage, e.g. dark, gloomy, cosy, safe, strong, secure.  A word bank can be created and used for poetry and prose.
