Mathematics / Whittakers Cottages

This pair of cottages whilst obviously symmetrical has inspiring measurement possibilities. Until recently all land surveying was based on the surveyors chain.  A surveyors chain (22 yards long) is exhibited along one side of the cottages and the dimensions of the houses and their plot are very precise.  The plot is one chain (22 yards or 66 feet) square, which is one tenth of an acre. The cottages are used as a venue for our Victorian workshops.
